Have an empty Wet Ones bottle?

12 Sep

First activity post is dedicated to one of my favorites. Supplies include: empty Wet Ones bottle, handful of marbles, and some tongs. Super easy to do, and builds so many good skills! Set up: place marbles in a tray, on a plate, or on a frisbee to keep them from rolling around and open the top of the Wet Ones bottle. Using dominant hand, utilize tongs to grasp marble and place on top of the bottle…

Using non dominant hand, push marble into bottle. Can use thumb or index finger in order to increase strength and IP flexion. This task improves manuel dexterity, bilateral coordination, crossing midline, grasping, strength, eye hand coordination, timing and sequencing, grading of movements, and many more areas! Over time, more marbles can be put in the bottle, more resistive tongs can be used, and the task can be completed under a certain amount of time. Have the child sit on a bolster, half kneel on a dynamic surface, etc. to target postural control as well. The possibilities are endless!
